What is the Author field?

The "Author" field is a common metadata field that is contained within various file formats, such as Office files and PDFs. This field is normally populated when the file is created or updated.

Extracting the Author field

The "Author" field is extracted from a file's "properties" during incoming file processing. This includes emails and their attachments, but it is extracted from documents regardless of whether or not they are emails/attachments that are attached to emails.

In case an email has already been converted to a PDF before it is uploaded to GoldFynch then it's likely that the "author" field from the original file will not be available. This will also be applicable to any attachments that were converted to PDFs along with the email. This is because most software used for converting emails to PDFs fail to transfer and populate the "author" fields.
