Follow these steps to export data from Facebook and import it into GoldFynch.
Step 1. Log into your Facebook account
Step 2. Click here to navigate to the 'Your Facebook Information page.
Alternatively:
- Click on the downwards arrow in the top-right corner of the Facebook screen (in the blue bar)
- Click on the 'Your Facebook Information' option in the left menu
Step 3. Click on the 'View' option against 'Download your information'
Step 4. Choose the format and content of the information you want to be exported:
- Date range
- Format (IMPORTANT: Make sure you select 'HTML' as the format)
- Media quality (high, medium or low)
- Check the checkboxes against the information fields that you want to be included in the export
NOTE: While choosing what information to be exported, it is helpful to click on 'Deselect all' and check individual fields that you want to be included
Step 5. Click on the 'Create File' button
Step 6. Click on the 'Available files' tab. It will display a number next to it representing the exports that are processing or which are ready for download
Step 7. Exports that are still processing will have the 'Pending' text against them. Once they complete, click on the 'Download' button next to the export that you wish to download
Step 8. Enter your Facebook password as a confirmation for the download request. The exported file will then begin to download
Now that you have downloaded the exported data, you can easily upload it to GoldFynch:
Step 1. Log into your GoldFynch account and open the case you wish to upload the data to
Step 2. Navigate to the 'Files' view by clicking on the button in the left pane
Step 3. Open the folder you wish to add the exported data to
Step 4. Click on 'Upload Files' and select the file that was downloaded from Facebook in the browser window that opens (or) navigate to the file that was downloaded from Facebook on your computer (File Explorer for Windows or Finder for Mac) and Drag-and-drop it into the GoldFynch window
Step 5. Click on the 'Begin Upload' button
Step 6. After the file uploads and is processed, click on the folder to view your Facebook data
Formatting of the exported data
This is what the exported folder looks like when it is unzipped:
Each person the Facebook user had a message history with is assigned a folder, and the folder contains a single html file containing the entire chat history with that person:
Images and videos are broken down by album, and are exported in the jpeg format:
